Over het werk

Titel: Body Temple Materiaal: Geometric architectural plan This work is part of the research process developed for my Body Temple project. It explores the historical relationship between the proportions of the human body, geometry and architectural design. The human body becomes the starting point for constructing an architectural structure. Its proportions, position and central points determine a geometric system superimposed onto the figure. The navel functions as a centre of orientation, referring to the Vitruvian tradition in which the human body becomes a measure for geometry and architecture. The work is based on my own design method developed during my doctoral research. I begin with the body and construct a geometric architectural plan around and within it, using divisions, axes and regular geometric forms. Mathematics is therefore not an illustration added to the image, but a tool used to organise and transform the body into architecture. The resulting image exists between a human figure, a geometric diagram and an architectural plan. It reflects my broader research into the possibility of understanding the body as architecture — a Body Temple mschrijving werk
